Alessandrino Chess Club — Monthly Blitz Nights

I'll kick things off with one of our regular events!

Tournament name: Thursday Blitz Night Date and location: Every Thursday, Circolo Scacchistico Alessandrino, Alessandria, Italy Number of players: 12–18 (varies week to week) Format: Swiss, 7 rounds Time control: 3+2 (Blitz)

How did it go?

We run these every week and they've become a tradition at our club. The atmosphere is always great — a mix of experienced players and newcomers. The fast time control keeps things exciting and we usually finish in about 2.5 hours, which is perfect for a weeknight.

What worked well?

The speed of pairing generation is crucial for blitz events. With 7 rounds and short games, you need the next round ready within seconds. ChessPairings handles this perfectly — results in, pairings out, next round starts.

The live standings display is also a hit: we project them on a screen and players love seeing the leaderboard update in real time.

What could be improved?

We're looking forward to automatic notifications (so players know when pairings are up without checking the board) and maybe a quick "tournament in a box" preset for blitz events with pre-configured settings.

Final thought:

If you run a chess club, weekly blitz nights are one of the easiest ways to keep members engaged. Low commitment, high fun, and great for building community.

Who else runs regular club events? I'd love to hear your setup!
